One summer afternoon in Chinon, alongside the river Vienee, and drinking Cabernet Franc, we told ourselves, "we have to bring this wine back home." Although the wine we had that night has been illusive, we think this wine measures up nicely. Cabernet France is a slightly lighter bodied and more peppery version of Cabernet Sauvignon, especially when it doesn't see time in new oak. We hope you enjoy! Better yet, we hope this wine convinces you to visit Chinon one day.

55 year old certified organic vineyard. No fining or filtering. Natural yeast spontaneous fermentation. Aged in 2-3 year old 280L oak barrels for 24 months. Les Rocher des Violettes translates to The Rock of Violets. Can you smell the violets in this wine?

Variety Cabernet Franc
Region Touraine, Loire Valley (90% from near Chinon, 10% from Montlouis)
Volume 750ml
Alcohol Volume 12.8%

Xavier Weisskopf founded Le Rocher des Violettes in 2005 after studying winemaking in Chablis and Beaune and earning his degree in viticulture and oenology. He quickly went to work for the hard working and demanding Lous Barruol at famed Gigondas producer Chateau de Saint Cosme. He quickly rose to the rank ofchef du cave, making 4 vintages during his tenure. His love for Chenin Blanc drew him to Montlouis, where an underappreciation of this historic appellation allowed him to acquire 9 hectares of sacred old vine sites (mostly planted pre WWII!). He immediately converted the farming of all his vines to certified organics, with the aim to allow these precious old vines to speak without obfuscation. This traditional philosophy extends into the cellar where his use of older barrels shows the deft touch of true Chenin zen. His goal is simply to make wines of clarity, focus and laser precision.
